Back in April 2011 I wrote a quick piece on how I would be purchasing my “Ultimate Ultralight Spinning Rod and Reel Combination“. Not certain why but it never happened. Fast forward to July 2013 my needs changed a little and my Ultimate Ultralight Spinning Rod and Reel Combination 2013 was made to happen. I was still pretty set on the Shimano STCI41000FML Stradic CI4 Microline Spinning Reel but I now needed a two piece rod. After a bit of searching I learned the Shimano STCI41000FML Stradic CI4 Microline Spinning Reel was being replaced by a newer model the Shimano STCI41000FAML Stradic CI4 Microline Spinning Reel. Unfortunately the new model was a few months away from hitting store shelves. Being on vacation I wanted my new reel in hand in one day, two at the latest. The Shimano STCI41000FAML Stradic CI4 Microline Spinning Reel was not available with reasonably priced expedited shipping. In fact it was out of stock in most places. As luck would have it Amazon had it’s sibling the Shimano ST1000FJ Stradic FJ Spinning Reel for less than $150 which is cheaper than any other store by $50. The best part was it I could get it delivered via Amazon Prime free in two days or next day for four bucks. I chose the latter.

Moving on to the ultralight rod I did weigh options from St Croix, Pflueger, Daiwa and Browning but in the end I could not stay away from G.Loomis. I stayed within the “Trout and Panfish” series as previously specified but this time I went with the 5 foot G.Loomis SR6010-2 GL3.  I could have bought the G.Loomis  SR6010-2 GL3 rod from an Amazon marketplace seller for just over 200 bucks delivered but instead opted to spend two hundred and sixty dollars from a supplier who promised I would have the G.Loomis  SR6010-2 GL3 in hand next day. This supplier failed me.
