New Spinning Reel for the 2011 Fishing Season

I have a ritual of getting a new spinning reel ever couple of years whether I need one or not. The good thing is my old reel will be passed on to my favorite fishing charity, my buddy Bob. Ill post about that tradition at a later date.

Anyhow I’m not much of a brand loyal guy and through the years I have fished with Shimano, Quantum and Daiwa spinning reels with great pleasure and results. That said I have really become impressed with the technology Shimano has been using in their entire line of freshwater reels. So currently my selection is leaning towards a Shimano Sustain FE Spinning Reel. However I am still undecided as there is a reel from Daiwa that has also caught my attention. That reel the Daiwa Certate Vintage Custom Spinning Reel. According too Tackle Warehouse the Certate Vintage Custom Spinning Reel available only from them was designed for the Japanese market. I’m not sure what that means but I am curious none the less and thought thought of having a unique and interesting reel excites me

A great reel gets even better with Shimano’s new Sustain FE Spinning Reel. Completely redesigned under the SR-Concept, the Sustain FE features the new Propulsion Line Management System and Aero Wrap II Oscillation for extra-long casts and less line twist. The Sustain FE is further enhanced with the Paladin Gear Durability Enhancement, which adds considerable strength to the gear system without sacrificing any of the reel’s smoothness. A new Direct Drive Mechanism was also directly attached to the handle, allowing power to be transferred through the handle more efficiently with less vibration.

The Sustain still has all of the durability and smoothness it always had with its 7 A-RB coated ball bearings. Weight was also reduced by adding a Graphite Side Plate and Rotor, as well as, a cold forged Aluminum Frame and Spool with a Titanium Lip. Add in WP Drag (waterproof drag), a Maintenance Port and Repairable Clicker for unprecedented reliability plus a host of other features and you have a new Sustain FE Spinning Reel that is as good as it ever was.

  1. I took a trip to Cabelas today and handled the Shimano Sustain FE Spinning Reel. All I can say is that it is the finest spinning reel I have ever had the pleasure of holding in my hands. I think my mind is made up.
